First attempt at oil painting

A few years ago I purchased some oil paints at a pound shop. For some reason, I have never had the confidence to use them. Last week, I thought I would have a try.

This was the first oil painting, which I did on plywood. I was told to leave it until it dried but being an impatient person, after 2 days, I got a cloth and rubbed into it, distorting the images that I had originally painted. I wasn't content with that, so I varnished it. However, I am happy with the outcome.

Before

After

My work is comparable to the Scream by Edvard Munch 1893. They are both quite eerie pieces.

This is the third oil painting, again on ply. I took this one more seriously. It is one of Mad Frankie Frazer, a notorious gangster from London.

I used black and white oils to emphasise different shades and textures for this portrait. I painted the background crimson red to represent his violent temperament.

The picture above was painted just after I had returned from my exhibition in London, which didn't go as well as I had hoped because I didn't sell much. I was out of pocket and felt like a failutre. As you can see from the painting, I wasn't in a good place.
