Around the Globe

The wife and I were told by one of my lecturers about the home of Robert Olley's artwork being the Globe gallery in Newcastle. So we went one Saturday in January to the Globe and the Vane. Robert Olley's work struck me as being similar to mine and that of the Pittman painters. His paintings are all about the local working class and as you can see from this painting below "The Netty" by Robert Olley. The remarks that were painted on the walls could probably be seen in any of the local toilets in the surrounding areas.

The Netty, Robert Olley,1972

It brings to mind when I created my prison cell from the white cube and I invited people to put remarks on the walls. The picture below shows My grandsons tags and a friend called Andy Craggs painting a picture in memory of his wife on my installation.

I also started a recreation of "The Netty" but added my own twist using two used teabags to create the effect. I named the painting Teabageffectamonday.
