Me and my wife booked a holiday to Bruges and I had been told by one of the teachers that they had a Picasso museum that was worth a visit.

We sought out the museum and found it very interesting. One of the paintings that most interested me was Carnet de Californie 27. I liked this composition as it compared to my work. You can not tell where reality starts and his imagination ends.

Carnet de Californie 27, Picasso, 1959,

On return to England I got off the ferry and we were directed to an empty shed by customs officers. We were ordered off the bus and to take all of our personal belongings with us. Each bag was searched and to my astonishment people were discarding their cigarettes and other paraphernalia on the floor. When I got back to University I reflected on the experience and completed this composition below. Which I called "Brexit UK".

Just like Picasso used real life experience to create art I have also done. It has made me wonder even more what was he thinking, experiencing and observing while creating Carnet de Californie 27.

Picasso inspired me so much I decided to use one of his early influences and bought a bottle of Absinth to help me create a future piece of work.
